Suspect arrested after late night Moxee car chase
YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash.-- A suspect is behind bars at the Yakima County Jail after leading law enforcement on a 2.5 hour car chase Sunday night near Moxee. Court documents indicate a Washington State Patrol trooper tried to pull David Salazar over on State Route 22 for not having a passenger side mud flap and having a white light coming from the rear of his car when in forward motion.
WSP says when Salazar refused to pull over, the chase began. WSP, YSO, and Moxee Police were all involved in chasing the lifted pickup truck. Court documents say the vehicle was spiked several times. They say Salazar tried to strike officers, and a YSO sergeant shot at the truck twice. Nobody was hit.
After troopers say he circled a hop field, Salazar was arrested. He admitted to drinking beer and taking several medications. YSO is investigating the firearm being discharged. Salazar is facing four counts of assault in the second degree, hit and run, and driving with a suspended license.
