Sunnyside man charged after being hit by car

SUNNYSIDE, Wash. -- A Sunnyside man was hospitalized Tuesday night after being hit by a car - but Washington State Patrol says he's being held responsible for the accident.

Troopers say 77-year-old Jose Ochoa was crossing Yakima Valley Highway around 8 p.m. when a car being driven by 25-year-old Maria Sanchez Santana of Grandview struck him.

Ochoa was taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital. WSP says he is being charged with failing to yield the right of way to a vehicle.

WSP has not announced whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
