MGN Online

YAKIMA, Wash. - Police say there was an attack at a Yakima nursing home last month, and this week the Yakima County Coroner has declared it a homicide.

Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins confirmed Jerry Bunkelman, 65, was beaten at Garden Village in Yakima August 18.

According to police, James Littlebull, a 77-year-old hospice patient, attacked Bunkelman, beating him with a piece of his wheelchair at the nursing home.

The victim was taken to a hospital and was later released. Hawkins said Bunkelman died August 30, one day after his hospital release.

The coroner has ruled Bunkelman's death as a homicide.

Police potentially could have charged the alleged attacker, Littlebull, with the killing, but Littlebull is also dead.

Police tell us Littlebull died while at Cottage in the Meadow on August 22nd. Four days after the attack.
