Stolen vehicle from Ellensburg recovered in Sunnyside

SUNNYSIDE POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE -- On 04/10/14 at about 2232 hours, Sunnyside Officer Darin Scott was working patrol when he observed a vehicle traveling on Midvale Road with no taillights. Officer Scott initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle pulled over and stopped. While approaching the vehicle the driver accelerated and sped away from the traffic stop. Officer Scott returned to his patrol vehicle and began to chase the fleeing vehicle. The driver then slammed on his breaks, coming to a skidding stop in the middle of the roadway and exited the vehicle leaving two passengers behind. The driver then fled to a nearby business in an attempt to hide from officers. As this was occurring information was obtained that the vehicle in question was stolen from the Ellensburg area and the license plate was stolen from the Tri-Cities area. The two passengers were immediately taken into custody and additional Officers from surrounding agencies arrived to assist in searching for the driver. The driver was later located hiding in a storage bin a short distance from where he had fled from the vehicle. The driver was identified as Travis Manuel Kelly and was arrested and charged with Possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and eluding.
