Snowy Owl recovering after being hit by a car in Union Gap

UNION GAP, Wash. -- A surprising sight at the Union Gap Costco when a snowy owl was found hurt in the store parking lot. The owl was taken to a local veterinarian and then to an Oregon rehab center for birds. Specialists say these owls normally don't migrate this far south unless food is scarce. The bird was underweight, but we're told it's recovering well.

"Well it's pretty cool you have to admit it's a snowy. He seems to be doing really well so yeah it's pretty amazing to have a bird like this because you normally don't get to see them," said Blue Mountain Wildlife Executive Director Lynn Tompkins.

The bird also has a dislocated shoulder and fractured bone, likely from being hit by a car. It's expected to recover in a few weeks.
