Road project preparation to delay traffic on Tieton Drive

CITY OF YAKIMA NEWS RELEASE -- Eastbound traffic on Tieton Drive will be reduced to one lane Tuesday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm near the intersection of 38th Avenue.

City of Yakima crews will prepare for road and utility work that will take place this summer. Work is expected to continue through Wednesday.

City crews will be collecting data to ensure that the relocation of a sewer line planned for later this year is not in conflict with existing utilities in the area.

The section of Tieton Drive affected by the traffic slowdowns on Tuesday and Wednesday is part of a large-scale grind and overlay
project that will include roads in various parts of the city.

The comprehensive grind and overlay project, which is part of the City's response to results from the 2012 Yakima Citizen Survey that indicated community members want to see improvements made to streets, will be completed this year.

During the project, traffic delays in the area are likely to occur. Drivers should use alternate routes if possible until the project is completed.

Access to homes and businesses in the area will be maintained and emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project area if necessary.

As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
