WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Dan Newhouse (R-WA) has become a co-sponsor of a bill that requires a president-elect to release their tax returns.

The President-Elect Release of Tax Return Act of 2017, which was introduced by Congressman Thomas Garrett, Jr. (R-VA), would require the president-elect to submit a copy of federal income tax returns for the last four years before the electoral college votes are counted.

The returns would not be required to be shared with the public, but House committee members would be able to release the information.

The bill is now in two House committees for review.
