Public could weigh in on cell phone tower discussion

YAKIMA, Wash. -- The public has the chance to weigh in on whether a ban on new cell phone towers should stay in place here in Yakima.

The city issued a moratorium on them after neighbors complained about a tower proposed near Yakima and 16th Avenues. It's looking at the current regulations and will use Tuesday's public hearing to consider changes. Neighbors want the moratorium to stay.

"I think the main reason that people aren't a fan of it is more so a big tower," said Rachael Monahan. "It would be an eyesore in this neighborhood plus the extra radiation."

There will be another public meeting in the next few months after the city drafts a new policy for cell towers.
