Proclamation aims to give some legal control to Yakama Nation

YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- A proclamation signed Friday by Governor Jay Inslee aims to give some legal control to the Yakama Nation.

It gives the reservation authority over tribal members for full civil and criminal jurisdiction in certain cases.

It includes compulsory school attendance and juvenile delinquency cases among others.

The state is still keeping jurisdiction over some things, including criminal offenses involving non-Native American defendants and victims.
