Pierce County deputy takes own life while investigating case in Yakima
YAKIMA, Wash. -- A Pierce County sheriff's deputy took his life Friday while investigating a case in Yakima, according to Yakima County coroner Jack Hawkins.
Hawkins said Deputy Kory Shaffer, 47, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in a room at the Hilton Garden Inn on East Yakima Avenue.
Shaffer was in town with another deputy for an undisclosed case.
"He was in a room with his partner, and from what I understand he went into the bathroom and shot himself," said Hawkins.
Hawkins performed an autopsy Friday and the investigation is ongoing.
Shaffer had been with the sheriff's office since 2000.
