Man found dead in Yakima River, detectives investigate
YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. - Detectives are investigating a body found in the Yakima River.
Reports from the Yakima County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) said a passerby discovered the deceased person in the Yakima River near the bridge near State Route 22, Thursday. YCSO received the report around 2:26 p.m.
Investigators say the body looks to have been in the water for a while before it was discovered.
YCSO detectives are working to determine the identity of this person. Upon initial investigation, the deceased is a man.
Coroners conducted an autopsy Monday morning to help determine the cause of death.
[Update, Oct. 23] County coroner Jack Hawkins said the deceased is a Hispanic man in his early twenties. He said coroners will be able to positively identify the man once scheduled dental tests are complete.
