People may still be charged to park in downtown Yakima
YAKIMA Wash. -- There is still a possibility that people will be charged to park in downtown Yakima.
Councilmembers discussed whether they should install parking meters to help cover maintenance fees for parking lots around downtown.
The money would help make sure parking lots are in good condition, well striped and well lighted.
The council is proposing one hour free parking and then 50 cents per hour thereafter from 9 in the morning to 6 in the afternoon on weekdays.
Some of the locations considered for parking meters are the Capitol Theatre lot, the lots across from and behind Second Street Grill and the lot next to what used to be the Barrel House.
Council members did not vote on this topic but said they will bring it up again in the future.
