North Star Lodge Offers New Treatment to Patients

YAKIMA, Wash. --North Star Lodge now offers a new form of radiation treatment for cancer patients. It's the first in the state to have the TrueBeam Linear Accelerator. The equipment is to treat lung, breast, prostate and other types of cancer that might have needed surgery in the past. The machine targets tumors more precisely. Doctors say there are also fewer side effects and patients don't need to be treated as long. Five weeks of therapy can drop down to five days.

"About the first 3 times, I kept my eyes closed because it was so terrifying. But then I started opening them and it was really interesting. It was just great and it just takes a few minutes," said lung cancer patient Carol Wyatt.

North Star Lodge wants to buy a second machine and have it in place by March.
