YAKIMA, Wash.-- Work is being done to make a stretch of the Yakima Greenway quieter. The Greenway will soon move closer to Interstate 82 near K-mart. Yakima's Wastewater Division started building a sound barrier. It will be 7 feet tall about a quarter mile long. Engineers say it should take away a lot of the noise from the interstate.
"What we're hoping to do is keep the Greenway a pleasant experience connecting people to nature. And, so we're building the noise barrier berm to protect this part of the trail from freeway noise and from seeing the freeway," said Ryan Anderson, Yakima Utility Engineer.
This is part of the salmon conservation project that will cost more than $700,000.
