Nearly 1,000 homeless people in Yakima County this year

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima City Council will hold a study session on the homeless in Yakima. A survey showed there's almost 1,000 homeless people in Yakima County this year.

70% of those are from the city of Yakima. The Sunrise Outreach Center of Yakima has filled over 20,000 beds in the county over the last six years. People said they'd like to see the homeless problem cleaned up.

"Some of them I don't know if they're really homeless or not because they hold a sign saying they need help and sometimes I think maybe it's kind of a gimmick," said Gary Bender.

City Council will talk about addressing the issue on Tuesday.
