More Yakima walkers getting hit by cars

YAKIMA, Wash. -- More walkers in Yakima are getting hit by cars. The amount of victims has doubled in the last two years.

YPD reported five pedestrian traffic accidents in 2012. It jumped to 11 last year. Walkers shouldn't assume drivers will stop because the walk light is on. Be sure the driver can see you.

"They just take turns and they don't even pay attention to the crosswalk signs that tells us to go and they're turning right in front of us," said Jacob Heidt.

Police said pedestrian traffic accidents are mainly caused by jay walkers and distracted drivers.
