March for Meals campaign brings awareness to People for People's "Meals on Wheels" program
YAKIMA, Wash.- This is the 15th Annual March for Meals month.
Mayors from Grandview, Selah, Union Gap, and Yakima have all joined together for the proclamation.
They use this month to help draw attention to "People for People's “Meals on Wheels” program, the seniors they serve, and the volunteers who care for them.
The organization's CEO says the volunteers themselves are just as valuable as the meals they serve.
“So many times that’s the only person that our seniors may see for days at a time. And so they really look forward, not only to that hot meal, but also that friendly face that’s delivering it,” said Madelyn Carlson, CEO at People for People.
Last year alone the program served over 92,000 nutritious meals to Yakima County seniors helping them to maintain their health and independence.
