Local park getting an upgrade

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Come summer, Franklin Park in Yakima will be seeing some major park improvements. The Yakima Downtown Rotary bought a brand new playground for the park. It will be installed when the weather permits. A new picnic shelter will also be added next month. People in Yakima say improving the parks makes them more optimistic about families getting outdoors to enjoy activities together.

"I think that'll increase the chance of families coming out and enjoying the outside instead of staying home and playing video games," said Jesse Rowe, who exercises in Franklin Park regularly.

The newest project in the works is to extend the parking lot for busy summer events because there is never enough parking.
