Local church provides free food for people in need year round
YAKIMA, Wash. -- The holiday season is over but some people are in the spirit of giving year round.
The Grace Lutheran Church in Yakima is providing free produce and perishables every second Wednesday of every month.
This is the 10th year now that Grace Lutheran Church consecutively provides food for people in need.
President of Grace Lutheran Church Dave Lennon says they do not require any documentation or proof of income to receive the free food.
“We’ve been blessed with enough so we have the opportunity to give it away to people who are in need so as long as we got volunteers to get the food out we’ll keep doing it," said Lennon.
The food is provided by Second Harvest in Pasco.
Lennon says they were able to provide food to 370 families today.
Their next food distribution will be on February 14th.
Anyone can simply stop by with a box and fill it up with food.
