Light layer of snow coats the Yakima Valley

YAKIMA VALLEY, Wash. -- Neighbors in Yakima woke up to an unfamiliar sight this winter. A light layer of snow.

Cars, parks, streets and sidewalks were coated. The weather caused at least a dozen accidents on state highways. Troopers say the Lower Valley saw the most.

Of course, some people took advantage of the snow. Our cameras caught a woman and her daughter building a snowman.

"Today's my day off," said Marley Rasberry. "So, we're out playing out here in the park for a little bit until our hands are numb. And, then we're going to go home and maybe do the hot cocoa thing and stay inside."

Anyone hoping to see it last is out of luck. Most of it melted away by late this afternoon.
