Law enforcement arrest suspect for murder of Toppenish man

According to YCSO officials, sheriff deputies and Yakama Nation Tribal Police responded to the 200 block of Wanitay Park Drive at about 8:15 P.M. Friday.

The Yakima County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide that took place just outside of Toppenish Friday night.

According to YCSO officials, sheriff deputies and Yakama Nation Tribal Police responded to the 200 block of Wanitay Park Drive at about 8:15 P.M.

Law enforcement say the victim is Basil Emmons, 68, of Toppenish. He was found inside the residence with multiple stab wounds.

YCSO Detective Mike Russell said law enforcement arrested the suspect who was identified as the victim's nephew, 38-year-old Justin Michael Barnett.

He's been booked into the Yakima County Jail on a 1st degree murder charge. Investigators said he has a criminal history.

An autopsy is scheduled to take place in the coming days.
