Kittitas County increasing school security measures again

KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash.-- Kittitas County's school board met Wednesday with more focus on school security. Schools there already elevated some security measures.

The district requires more police patrols around schools every day. Now administrators are working on improving older school buildings to make them safer.

"You go to school to learn. You should not have to be worried about safety. That's the whole reason you go there; to get away from everything else, like you're supposed to be in a closed environment. There's supposed to be boundaries and there's no gun rules so that makes sense why people would want more security," said Mikaela Mecklemburd, who lives in Ellensburg.

Meetings between the school board and police agencies will continue over the next few weeks.
