KIMA, other media outlets fight to keep Harper hearing open
YAKIMA, Wash. -- KIMA is taking action for you to make sure there aren't any secrets in the Kevin Harper case surrounding the West Valley triple murders.
Action News joined the Yakima Herald and the other local television stations to prevent the Yakima County prosecutor's office from closing next week's scheduled hearing for Harper.
Prosecutors are arguing to revoke Harper's plea deal on stolen property and gun charges.
They intend to refile murder charges.
KIMA argues the public interest and the First Amendment outweighs the prosecution claim that keeping the hearing open would damage Harper's right to a fair trial.
