'It is a shock:' 2 bodies found in orchard near Othello

ADAMS COUNTY, Wash. -- Adams County Sheriff's units are investigating a double homicide that happened just outside of Othello. Two men were found shot to death in a pickup truck in an orchard.

Ray Gilbert has managed the orchard for almost a year. He never thought he would wake up to this.

"I was just called out this morning. Says there was a shooting and an accident so I came right out and this is what I found," Gilbert said.

Adams County Sheriff's units were on scene early Wednesday morning after workers found two bodies in a blue pick-up.

"It is a shock and a heck of thing to have to wake up to in the morning, but I have to live with it," Gilbert said.

39 year old Juan Rizo-Torres and 29 year old Ruben Gonzalez-Navarrete were found shot to death and left in a pick-up.

Doug Barger, the Adams County Sheriff, is heading up the investigation, but has employed help from surrounding agencies.

"For us right now, just like many agencies, we're really short handed, so it's all bodies on board absolutely," said Barger.

While they don't have any suspects, they say they have several leads.

"I would hope in the next couple days we'll have a little clearer picture of whether we have a suspect developed. We'll just have to wait and see," said Barger.

But there will still be an empty space for Ray who says the two men were very hard workers.

"They took very good care of this orchard and so, there'll be some big shoes that will have to be filled," said Gilbert.

The Columbia Basin Investigation Team along with the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab assisted in the investigation.
