Investigators: Teen hospitalized after getting hit by police car

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Authorities said a teenager hit by a Yakima police car Monday afternoon outside a local elementary school was trying to cross the street. They said the teenager ran directly in front of the car.

It happened at the corner of Jerome Avenue and Sixth Avenue outside Garfield Elementary. The 13-year-old boy was taken to the hospital.

Sergeant Mike Henne was driving the patrol car. Officers said the injuries don't appear to be serious.
