Investigators determine shooting death of teen to be accidental
YAKIMA, Wash. - Investigators have revealed the identity of a teen found dead in a parked car Sunday.
Police said they found 18-year-old Sofia Ramirez dead in a parked car in a parking lot at 3rd Street and Arlington Avenue around 11:00 a.m. Sunday.
Coroners determined the cause of death to be a tragic accident, not a homicide, after reports said she was involved in a shooting.
Reports said Ramirez was at a party and apparently intoxicated. The victim was playing with a firearm at the party when it was accidentally fired and she was hit by a bullet, according to investigators.
Other partygoers then carried the victim inside the car that was later found by authorities and left the car at 3rd Street and Arlington Avenue as reports said they were panicked.
Police said no one has been charged in connection to the victim's death.
