Hundreds participate in Yakima Humane Society run

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Hundreds of runners and their dogs strapped on their running shoes Sunday morning. They were participating in the Yakima Humane Society's 12th annual See Spot Run 5K.

Organizers said they raised about $13,000 at the event. Last year, they raised nearly $15,000. Every penny goes to the local shelter.

Participants said they're happy to help support the cause.

"The animals need care. So many people get an animal and then decide later, 'Well, it's getting too big or it's going to have puppies,'" said Yvonne Butler.

The Yakima Humane Society said it took in 7,000 animals last year.
