Chief Criminal Deputy Steve Shumate says the officer was shot in the hip and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a hospital.
Officers returned fire. It's unknown if the gunman was hit. He's still inside on the second floor of the home, while officers are on the ground floor and have surrounded the home while they attempt to negotiate.
Police say a 53-year-old woman and 49-year-old-man were wanted on arrest warrants out of Sacramento, California. Officers arrested the woman Tuesday but the man provided fake ID and was left. After investigators discovered the ruse, they returned Wednesday, but the man pulled out a gun and shot at the officers.
Police have tossed multiple canisters of tear gas into the home, which led to the gunman firing several rounds at the officers. No one was hit in the exchange.
Officers later attempted to use a camera-mounted robot to film the man, but he saw the machine and shot it. That camera was disabled, but not before police captured video of the man wearing a gas mask.
A second robot was called in. The gunman disabled that machine as well, though police have not said how he did it.
Traffic has been blocked in the area during the standoff.
