Group raises money to help Yakima County foster children

YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- Each year 700 kids are put into foster care in Yakima County, and on Sunday a giant event was put on to give those kids a fighting chance.

Vendors, auctions and public donations helped raise more than $7,000 for the Voices for Children organization. That money will be used for things such as sending foster kids to summer camp.

The event also helped at-risk teens. Several of the volunteers at the event were kids on probation who learned how to give back to the community.

"If they don't have funding, they just kind of get lost and this will help bring the awareness," said Donna Carmichael.

The Yakima County Juvenile Court also provides volunteers to help disadvantaged kids.
