Grass fire burns near White Swan
--YAKIMA COUNTY FIRE NEWS RELEASE--- We were dispatched to a grass fire in the area of Fort Simcoe road and Hawk road, on arrival we found a wind driven grass fire spreading very rapidly. Once the fire jumped Fort Simcoe road fire units priorities became protecting residences. There was two out building that were lost and one damaged and a abandoned residence that was lost. At approx 1245 pm the fire jumped Weasly road and spread rapidly towards Signal Peak road and threatening several more residence. With assistance of the upper valley units and Yakama Nation fire mgmt.and four dozers the fire was contained and no residence damaged. The wind picked up during the fire from 10-15 mph to 20-30 mph. The fire origin was traced back to a burn pit at the King Mountain cigarette facility. At this time the total acreage of the fire is approximately 700 acres.
