Foul play suspected in disappearance of Toppenish woman
TOPPENISH, Wash. -- Estela Rios Gonzalez's family has been living in a nightmare since she disappeared Tuesday night, leaving her three young children all alone. "She's a good mom, that's for sure, she's always there for her kids. She's a happy person, every time I see her smiling," said Jose Morales Rios, Estela's brother.
Yet for her family, smiling has been replaced with tears as they fear for her life. Her family told Action News, Estela, 30, had an argument with her ex-boyfriend, the children's father, over the phone. She was supposed to meet him at Legends Casino, and then bring back McDonald's for her family, yet no one has seen her since.
Her family says Estela's ex-boyfriend had been violent and abusive with her in the past. "We're sure, we're really sure that he has her," said Morales.
Yakima County Deputies have named her boyfriend, German Garcia, as a person of interest in the case. They suspect foul play. Investigators are searching for Garcia's car, a gray 2002 Chevy Venture with Washington License plate ABR4784.
"You know the kids they really ask for her, the mom a lot, last night we were here the kids wouldn't even go to sleep because they needed the mom, so they miss her a lot, it's just the shock," said Morales. Her family is still hoping for the best and have faith Estela is still alive. Yet the pain they feel inside is difficult to put into words. "It's really painful what we're going through because she's our only sister and we hope that she'll come back soon," said Morales.
Investigators say Garcia originally told family he had not seen Estela, yet video shows him leaving Legends Casino with Estela in her vehicle. Garcia, 40, is from Wapato. He is 5'4" and weighs about 140 pounds. Call police if you see any of the people connected to the case or spot the Chevy Venture.
