Fort Simcoe State Park closed due to aggressive bears

YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- Fort Simcoe State Park has been closed indefinitely due to aggressive black bears in the area.

At least seven bears have been spotted in the park west of White Swan. Washington State Parks says this is mating season and the five male bears are fighting with one another.

A park spokesperson says the park closed last week because visitors were not backing away after the bears made threatening moves toward them.

Animal control officials from the Yakama Nation are trying to relocate the bears.

There is no set date for when the park might reopen.
