Former Yakima track and cross country star fighting for his life after brutal beating


YAKIMA, Wash. - Two years ago he was crowned Yakima Valley Athlete of the year, and now he's in a coma. Fighting for his life.

In the Spring of 2014 we proudly saluted track and cross country star Drew Schreiber as our Athlete of the Year in Yakima.

The Eisenhower grad signed to run at University of Washington, then transferred to Eastern Washington.

Then, the chilling nightmare of the weekend before last. Drew was savagely beaten with a baseball bat at his apartment in Cheney according to official reports.

Witnesses say prior to the attack they saw Drew leap from his second floor window. Chase after the suspect's car. Jump onto the trunk and kick in the rear window. Showering everyone inside with glass.

His family says they don't believe Drew knew the assailants, and two men have been arrested in connection with the beating according to officials.

Drew Schreiber remains in a medically induced coma. Action News sends their thoughts and prayers to the Schreiber family.
