Former county Republican treasurer pleads guilty to theft

YAKIMA, Wash. -- A guilty plea on embezzlement charges Tuesday came from the former treasurer of Yakima County's Republican Party.

Michele Mulhair admitted to first degree theft for stealing nearly five-thousand-dollars from Huber Construction in Terrace Heights.

Prosecutors say Mulhair worked for the company and used dozens of company checks for her personal expenses.

The chairman for the Yakima County Republican Party says Mulhair was the committee's treasurer for six-months before resigning.

A routine audit of the committee's books indicated there was no money missing there.
