Fire sweeps through Yakima condo

---YAKIMA FIRE NEWS RELEASE--- The City of Yakima Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Sunday April 1, 2012 at 09:28 Am at the 4500 block of Webster Avenue. The first arriving fire officer reported a large amount of smoke and fire coming from the garage. Fire crews made a rapid attack on the fire and was able to confine the fire to the garage. The structure is best described as a 2 unit condo. There were no reported injuries. The Yakima Police Department was also on the scene and assisted with evacuation of both adjoining homes. A police officer heard an explosion inside the garage. The explosion partially pushed the large garage door out. It is unknown at this time what exploded. A portable heater in the garage is believed to have been too close to combustibles started the fire. Two cars were in the garage at the time of the fire. Both were totally destroyed. There is smoke damage to both of the adjoining condos.
