The fire started on the exterior in a juniper type bush that was directly next to the building. The fire quickly spread in to the structure through the soffit and into the attic space. The first arriving Yakima engine was able to knock the majority of the fire down from the outside and they sent arriving crews interior to search for occupants. The occupants were out of the building when fire crews arrived. The fire was confined to the exterior and the attic space and was quickly extinguished. Crews remained on scene for about 2 hours ensuring complete extinguishment of the fire in the attic.
Three adult occupants were displaced in the fire apartment and were assisted by Red Cross and the property manager. Fire loss was determined to be approximately $50,000 for the structure and $2000 for contents. There were no injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
