Ellensburg selects company to build fiber optic network

ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- Ellensburg is moving ahead with plans to build its own fiber optic network. And, hired a company to do the work.

City Council approved a million dollar contract with Cannon Construction to build the network for the City and seven public agencies.

Ellensburg has been using Charter Communications' network for free. Now, Charter wants to charge Ellensburg about $10,000 per month.

The new network could be ready in a year.
