Dry weather conditions cause fire danger, Red Flag Warning in the lower Columbia Basin
LOWER COLUMBIA BASIN, Wash. - Weather officials have issued a Red Flag Warning due to fire danger in Southeastern Washington.
The warning will be in effect Friday, 8 p.m. through Saturday 9 p.m. due to strong, dry winds according to reports.
Leaders with the National Weather Service (NWS) out of Pendleton said scattered thunderstorms are expected to hit the area Friday night and Saturday morning in the lower Columbia Basin of Oregon and Washington.
Weather conditions are expected to move across the region from Oregon.
Cloud to ground lightning strikes could cause new fires to spark according to experts. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
NWS leaders discourage any outdoor burning while the warning is in place.
