Downtown Yakima streets accommodate annual basketball tournament
YAKIMA, Wash. - Several streets in downtown Yakima will transform into basketball courts to accommodate an outdoor tournament.
The 2017 Annual Hot Shots 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, scheduled August 25-27, will feature 509 teams- the highest amount since the tournament began in 2003, according to a City of Yakima press release.
Sections of Yakima Ave. and other downtown roads will not be open to traffic until Sunday evening.
Traffic will not be allowed on Yakima Ave. between 1st St. and Naches Ave., 2nd Street between Chestnut Ave. and the alley half a block north of Yakima Ave. and 3rd Street between Chestnut Ave. and the alley half a block north of Yakima Ave. to accommodate over 1,900 players and as many as 12,000 spectators.
Additionally, only local traffic will be allowed on 4th Street between Chestnut Avenue and Yakima Avenue, city leaders said.
Free parking for the event will be available at the the following locations.
- The public lot near the Millennium Plaza,
- The public lot at the corner of 2nd Street and S Sgt Pendleton Way
- The Yakima County Courthouse lot
- The public lot off of 1st Street near the Crafted restaurant
- Downtown Streets Transform Into Hoops Courts
- Any available on-street spaces including angled spaces
The finals in each division will take place Sunday afternoon and evening.
The Yakima Farmer’s Market location will be moved 3rd Street between Chestnut Avenue and Walnut Street (one block south of its normal location) August 25.
