Do you know about the dangers of nitrate water?

YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- Students at Heritage University spent the last couple of months gauging what people know about hidden dangers in their well water.

Almost seven out of every ten say they're aware of the risks of nitrates in the water.

And, a little more than half have had their water tested for nitrates.

Another third would like to have theirs tested.

"Not right now, but maybe in the future when I maybe have a wife or something like that, that's something to be concerned about," said Paul Rickert, a private well owner.

You can get your well tested for nitrates without paying as long as you take part in the survey.

Nitrates can be harmful to pregnant women, babies and people with poor immune systems.
