Detectives searching for driver of suspect vehicle in police pursuit, shooting
WAPATO, Wash. - Police now know the identity of the driver of a suspect vehicle in a drive-by shooting that resulted in an officer shooting one of the suspect passengers.
Police pursued the car Monday afternoon, May 22 after shots were fired at a house on the 300 block of Old McCoy Road.
One of the suspects got out of the car with a gun in the 200 block of S. Camas Avenue where police chased him on foot. The suspect was then shot by an officer after he pointed a handgun towards the officers according to reports.
Officials with the Yakima County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) said the driver of the vehicle was identified as Jonathan Vargas, 31, of Wapato.
Detectives are asking for help from the public in finding Vargas, who should be considered armed and dangerous.
Police reports said Vargas is six feet tall and weighs about 190 pounds and has brown eyes. He has numerous tattoos on his face and neck, including the number "13" covering the front of his neck.
Yakima County Superior Court issued a warrant for his arrest for possession of a firearm.
