Deputies: Woman shot in the leg on Yakima Valley Highway
BUENA, Wash. - Yakima County Sheriff's deputies are searching for suspects in a drive-by shooting late Tuesday night.
Toppenish Police said at about 9 p.m., a 22-year-old woman was shot in the leg near the 9200 block of Yakima Valley Highway in Buena.
The victim was taken to Toppenish Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. She was later released to go home, deputies said.
According to the victim and a witness, the suspects were in a dark colored vehicle on Yakima Valley Highway and fired multiple shots from their moving vehicle.
Witnesses said they did not know the suspects or the vehicle involved in the shooting.
Detective Sergeant for the Yakima Sheriff's Office Mike Russell says people should always be cautious no matter where they are.
“Be vigilant be aware of your surroundings. If you see something that appears to be suspicious or a person that appears to be suspicious don’t get out of your car in that particular area. Just the most important thing is just be aware of your surroundings and if you see something that doesn’t feel right leave the area," said Russell.
Sheriff's deputies are investigating to identify suspects.
