Deputies spot body floating in Tieton River
YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash.- A man is dead after sheriff deputies say he jumped into the Tieton River.
The Yakima County Sheriff's Office says shortly after arriving, a deputy spotted the body of a 31-year-old New Mexico man floating down stream in the middle of the river.
The Washington State Patrol, Naches Fire Department and an ambulance all responded.
The Yakima Fire Department's Swift Water Rescue/Tec Rescue Team, Yakima Firefighters and the Yakima Training Center also provided assistance.
After several attempts, rescuers managed to get the man onto a raft, but deputies say he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Yakima County Sheriff's Office say they don't believe foul play to be a factor in this case, but are still trying to figure out why the victim jumped into the river.
The sheriff's office is also warning to community to stay careful around waterways.
