Deputies say a 14 year-old-boy is shot in the chest by his friend
YAKIMA WA. -- The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office says a 14-year-old boy is recovering after his friend shot him in the chest.
Deputies says it happened around seven in the evening in the 6900 block of Ahtanum Road.
The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound.
According to the Sheriff’s Office the 14-year-old boy was shot through his left wrist and into his chest.
Deputies say the victim initially reported that he was at a friend’s home when an unknown person drove by and shot him in the driveway, and then drove away.
Deputies say upon further questioning the 14-year-old boy and his friend admitted that the friend had accidentally shot the 14-year-old boy while they were at the home.
According to the Sheriff’s Office the firearm was unsecured at the home while all adults were away during the day.
YCSO says the victim only suffered minor injuries to his wrist and chest and is expected to be discharged from a local hospital this evening.
The Sheriff’s Office wants to remind all firearm owners that proper securing of firearms is essential to prevent accidents of this nature.
The Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is continuing and criminal charges may be filed after the investigation is completed.
