Deputies recommend charges for man who shot car prowl suspect

YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- Yakima County sheriff's deputies have recommended an 18-year-old man be charged with assault after he shot a 17-year-old outside a house in Terrace Heights.

It happened just after 1 a.m. on July 6 in the 400 block of Santa Roza Drive.

The 18-year-old told deputies he happened upon two people trying to break into his car. He fired a rifle at the suspects as they ran away. The 17-year-old was hit in the leg and is still in a Seattle hospital.

Investigators say the man's actions weren't justified.
