Deputies: Outlook man arrested after fatal Lower Valley shooting

YAKIMA COUNTY SHERIFF'S NEWS RELEASE -- On August 4, 2013 at 9:10 a.m. the Yakima Sheriff's Office received a call of a gunshot victim that had arrived by private vehicle at Sunnyside Community Hospital. The victim had suffered a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the hospital. Two persons that brought the victim to the hospital were detained by Sunnyside PD officers.

The two told investigators that they had been driving in the Sunnyside/Outlook area when they saw a white car occupied by gang members. An occupant in the white car fired a shot that struck the victim. The victim was then transported to SSCH. There were inconsistencies in this story from the outset.

Detectives later learned that one of the occupants of the car had fired the shot that struck the victim. The suspect, a 31 year old Hispanic male from Outlook, was booked at the Yakima County Jail on murder charges.

The victim is identified as 29 year old Roberto Licea of Sunnyside. Next of kin have been notified. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
