Deputies: Man shot with sawed-off shotgun

YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- A 25-year-old man is in critical condition after he was shot Monday night in front of his home. Deputies say Jaime Padilla was shot in the head while smoking a cigarette.

After a heated argument, deputies say a passenger got out of a car and fired a sawed-off shotgun at Padilla before fleeing in a car. Detectives don't have any witnesses or suspects.

Padilla was transferred to a Seattle hospital where he is listed in serious condition.

Neighbors said they live in a normally calm neighborhood.

"It's not shocking. It's Yakima, you know. A lot of things happen around here, but usually out here in this corner it's pretty quiet," a neighbor said.

This was the first report of shots fired this year along the 1600 block of Thorp Road.
