Cultural celebration event brings dialogue among local community
ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- Locals in Ellensburg celebrated the United Nations World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development Saturday morning.
The group supported families coming together at the Rotary Pavilion downtown for activities including music, crafts, poetry, and storytelling.
It was also a chance for more dialogue about the Shady Acres mobile home community.
KIMA previously reported Kittitas County commissioners plan to use the mobile home property for RV parking at the fairgrounds, which will displace more than 30 families.
"This is an opportunity for Ellensburg and the Central Washington community to get together and really address some of the issues like transparency," said Yakima city councilwoman Carmen Mendez regarding the event.
Commissioners said Shady Acres tenants have a year to relocate once the property purchase is finalized but residents hope to continue talks.
