Crews continue fighting Norse Peak fires, Hwy 410 partially closed
YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- Fire danger remains very high as firefighters continue battling the Norse Peak fires that shut down part of Highway 410 this week.
More the 350 firefighters are on the scene of the Norse Peak Fire and several other small fires caused by lightening in the Naches Ranger District.
Crews are dropping water from helicopters and putting down firelines at the site through Monday.
Fire officials said the Norse Peak Fire has burned 2,103 acres so far, while four nearby fires range from five acres to 207 acres.
Highway 410 from milepost 60 to milepost 84 is open from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. only as crews clear debris. Surrounding campgrounds and trails remain closed until further notice.
Fire officials said they will evaluate the area daily until Monday.
