WSP reports the Toppenish man crossed the center of the road on the northbound side slamming into a power pole. His truck came to rest on the driver's side in a nearby canal. It was partially submerged in the water.
A small brush fire that started at the base of the pole was quickly put out.
Alcaraz died at the scene. The coroner says he had massive chest and head trauma.
It's unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved. It takes four to six weeks to get toxicology results back.
A deputy says more details will be released Sunday night.
